Ruks invited for a Gardenscape - Report by The Church of Ceylon

At the invitation of the Chairman of Kithu Sevana, an arm of the Colombo Diocese of the Church of Ceylon, Ruk Rakaganno was called upon to advise and assist with the functionality and outlook of their premises.

374, Bauddhaloka Mawatha is where Kithu Sevana operates from, a building embedded in a landscape adjacent to the immense Cathedral premises of the Church of Ceylon, where Ruk Rakaganno conducted a Tree Walk in April this year.to commemorate its Golden Anniversery.

The team from Ruk Rakaganno visited the somewhat leafy green premises on the 7th July and had discussions with the Chairman, Board of Management and the Kithu Sevana team. With the study done and requirements established the RR team set about conceptualizing an inviting landscape embracing the existing but providing an ordered aesthetic.

The small team from Ruk Rakaganno enthusiastically selected pavings and plants as appropriate for comfort and drainage, while soothing the mind having entered off the busy and hot 4-lane Bauddhaloka Mawatha, and not forgetting the daily inhabitants such as insects, butterflies and birds. The possibility of providing adequate parking was curtailed by the existing signage feature. While it is RR’s premise not to remove any trees, some invasive clumping palms could be removed in the interest of functionality.

The design proposal was presented as an overall report with plans, visuals and tabulated information so as to facilitate Kithu Sevana’s need to transform into reality.

Ruk Rakaganno was pleased to deliver all this in a few weeks to the Management of Kithu Sevana.

The Chairman of the Board of Management of Kithu Sevana had this to say:

“Your team has indeed given a very comprehensive proposal and the work clearly involved in doing so cannot be understated”.

It is now over to the Kithu Sevana team to make the design a reality. Best wishes.
