Empowering Habarana through sustainable beekeeping

Ruk Rakaganno is happy to announce the renewed association with the John Keells Foundation (JKF) to assist them in “ Bee Keeping that Sustains Life” with the community surrounding the Cinnamon Lodge Hotel in Habarana Sri Lanka.

Our successful connotation with JKF, to ecologically reforest 59 acres of land in the buffer zone of the Sinharajah Rain Forest helped us to gain the confidence of JKF who reached out to us for advice and implementation of this Bee Keeping project.

We at Ruk Rakaganno are indeed honoured by their invitation.

I quote below and extract of a message sent by  Carmeline Jayasuriya, Head of CSR, John Keells Group.

“ The MOU signing between John Keells Foundation, Cinnamon Hotels & Resorts and Ruk Rakaganno was held on 11th December 2024 with Carmeline Jayasuriya, Head of CSR, John Keells Group, Hishan Singhawansa, Deputy CEO and Chief Operating Officer, Cinnamon Hotels & Resorts and Dushy Perera, President of Ruk Rakaganno.

This MoU is signed to upskill and develop the beneficiaries of the ‘Bees that Sustain Lives’ beekeeping project in Habarana which was launched in August 2023 under John Keells Praja Shakthi - with the Cinnamon Hotels & Resorts for its resorts located in Habarana. Through the project, fifteen selected beneficiaries around the Cinnamon Habarana complex were selected and supported with the necessary equipment. This project comes within the John Keells Praja Shakthi - a sustainable community empowerment initiative of John Keells Foundation.”

“We are delighted to renew our collaboration with Ruk Rakaganno – this time to uplift a community in Habarana through a Beekeeping project under the John Keells Praja Shakthi - Habarana initiative. Ruk Rakaganno has already commenced providing technical expertise to empower the beneficiaries, in environmentally-friendly and sustainable honey production with the objective of increasing their yield and markets, and thereby their household income”
